The Stuff People Want to Know Before They Hire a Crew

Hiring someone to work on your trees or your home is a big deal. You want to know they are licensed, insured, and going to show up. Below are the questions we hear from homeowners across Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Mount Vernon, and the rest of Whatcom and Skagit County, with straight answers.

General

Yes. Timber Tree and Construction is a licensed general contractor in Washington State with a full tree service crew. One company, two service lines, one combined crew. Most local companies do one or the other. We do both because most jobs need both. The tree comes down, the land gets cleared, the build starts. Same crew the whole way.

Dylan and Taylor Lindsey, brothers, founded Timber in 2019. When you call (360) 441-5033, you are usually talking to Dylan, Taylor, or someone they trained personally. This is a family-run, locally owned business based in Whatcom County.

A free estimate means we come look at your project, or we work from photos you send, and we give you a written price for the work. No charge, no obligation. For most tree jobs we can quote from photos. For construction, we usually walk the property. Call or text (360) 441-5033 to set it up.

Yes. Timber Tree and Construction is a licensed general contractor in Washington State and fully insured for both tree service and construction work. We can provide a certificate of insurance to homeowners, insurance adjusters, or HOA boards before any work starts.

Tree Service

It depends on the size of the tree, where it sits on your property, what is around it, and how we have to take it down. A small backyard tree might be a few hundred dollars. A large fir leaning over a roof can be a few thousand. Estimates are always free. Call (360) 441-5033 and we will come look or quote from photos.

Sometimes. The City of Bellingham has tree protection rules for certain zones, slopes, and street trees. Most residential removals on private property do not require a permit, but it is always worth a quick check. As your contractor, we can help you confirm what is required before we start. Outside the city limits, rules vary by county and HOA.

Yes. Standard stump grinding goes 6 to 12 inches below grade, which is enough to replant grass, lay sod, or build over. If you need a deeper grind for a foundation or driveway, just tell us up front and we will price it accordingly.

Yes, and we are one of the only local crews that can clear the land and then build on it. We handle tree removal, stump grinding, brush clearing, and basic site prep. If you want to keep going, we can stay on for excavation, foundations, and the full build.

Construction

New custom homes, full remodels, additions, ADUs, kitchen and bath remodels, decks, garages, shops, pole barns, fences, and concrete work. We work on residential and commercial projects across Whatcom and Skagit County.

Yes. ADUs (accessory dwelling units) are one of the fastest-growing project types in Whatcom County. Rules vary by jurisdiction, but Washington State and most local cities now allow ADUs on more properties than they used to. We can walk your lot, talk through what is permitted, and quote the build.

Yes. As a licensed general contractor in Washington State, we pull the building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical permits required for your project. You do not have to chase city hall. That is part of what you hire a real GC for.

It depends on scope. A bathroom remodel might run 2 to 4 weeks. A full kitchen is usually 6 to 10 weeks. A whole-house remodel can run several months. We give you a real timeline at the estimate, not a hopeful guess.

Emergency and Storm Damage

A tree on your house, garage, or vehicle. A tree blocking your driveway or a public road. A leaning tree that could come down in the next storm. Storm damage where the structure is open to the weather. If you are not sure, call (360) 441-5033 and we will tell you straight. No charge for the call.

We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For an active emergency in Whatcom or Skagit County, we are usually on site within a couple hours. We have responded at 2am and rolled out before sunrise more than once.

Yes. We document the damage with photos, write up the scope of work for your adjuster, and handle both the tree removal and the structural repairs. Most local companies leave the paperwork to you. We handle it as part of the job because we do both sides of the work.

Pricing and Estimates

Yes. Every estimate is free. No deposit, no obligation, no pressure. If you do not like the price, you do not have to do anything. We would rather lose a job to a better fit than push a customer into something they regret.

The call itself is always free. If you need us to come out at 11pm on a Sunday and do work, that work has a price like any other, and we tell you up front. We do not surprise anyone with after-hours fees.

We can talk through payment schedules that work for your project. For larger builds, most customers use a construction loan through their bank or credit union. Ask us at the estimate and we will share what other Timber customers have done.
